Artists I like #11

Upon not having written a blog post in quite sometime, I'm now aiming to do one blog post a week. I most more often on my Instagram because of the ease and instant access.

Anyway, I've been meaning to do this artist for a while after seeing the adverts on television for a couple of years now. They're the adverts for TSB bank.

I absolutely adore the illustrations in this advert, they're so bright and friendly. From just looking at the videos they seem to be watercolour painted stop frame animation. On the studios website, Studio AKA, it just states that they are hand crafted 2D animations. Doesn't let on too much how they were made but you can see within the clips the change in colours suggesting they were recreated frame by frame. They could also be just computer animated with the affect of watercolour but it's difficult to tell.

Either way I think the illustrations are lovely but perhaps belong in a children's book rather than a bank advert!

Once Upon A Time In Lari

Upon my recent travels to Tuscany, Italy, I visited a small town called Lari. Lari is known for its circle center that circles round a medieval castle. You can make your way to the top and venture inside to look around. It's in quite impressive condition and being a fan of the medieval period I enjoyed the visit. Inside the tourist shop were these two books that I straight away wanted to buy because of the colours and illustrations. The artist is Tommaso Levente Tani.

They are fun interactive picture books that appeal to multiple ages. The reason I wanted these so much is because it's an aim of mine to produce a picture book similar to these that have historical information. The set of two consists of one history book explaining the history of Lari and how the castle and town grew over the years. The other book is a fold out activity booklet which has small puzzles and games to do.

I also got drawn to these books because of the focus on Heraldry they both have, even down to designing and meanings. I previously did a project on Heraldry and find the topic extremely interesting.

The pages are beautiful and colourful, the translation from Italy is a little bit poor and some of the sentences don't quite make sense but it's still a lovely book to add to my collection. The illustrations are vector based with quite a simplistic style, the characters have a "copy and paste" feel but it works really well. I think these are lovely little books with lots of information displayed in a very attractive way!

Artists I Like #11

I have been trying to find some large scale prints similar to my buildings, so A2, and seeing how artists present them. I was trying to find some simple image searches on Google by searching "A2 fine art prints" when I saw some limited edition fashion prints. They caught my eye immediately because of the content being Disney, anyone who knows me knows I love Disney. Not only were these Disney prints but they were beautifully hand drawn fashion sketches. I've always loved fashion sketches, although I'm not particularly interested in fashion, the sketches themselves are always beautiful and creative drawings.

On top of them being drawn, coloured and styled so well they are also photographed in a setting that matched. The artist is Kelly Smith and she does even more wonderful fashion sketches beside just these prints! Sometimes you find inspiration even when you aren't looking for it.

Artists I like #10

Upon listening to some albums to kick off the new year I noticed that the album artwork for the Fall Out Boy album, Infinity on High, had some similar aspects to my photography work. It looks like a small set made up of different elements and then photographed.

Making these little sets myself I notice all the small details, for example Infinity on High is something that Vincent Van Gogh said and the starry sky painting seems to be portrayed in the background on the album. Also the small little coat hangers in the cupboard and books under the bed catch my eye. As far as I can find out the person who designed the set is Todd Fjelsted and the photographer is Pamela Littky. Pamela seems to work with a lot of A-list celebrities and seems to produce a lot of their album artworks while Todd's work seems widely ranged in many talents yet I can't find any work that looks similar to the set for the album.

Researching more I found another artist produced artwork inside the album, Chuck Anderson, and his Photoshop work is truly inspirational. Even designed the Windows 7 wallpaper! A lot of Chuck's work is similar to the work I use to enjoy doing when I was younger on Photoshop, bright colours and highly edited images. Almost what I'd call special effects in Photography.  I have no added him to my collection of artists I like and find an inspiration in the Photoshop world!

Artists I like #9

Over the summer I bought got two new books that I really liked. One was bought as a gift for me and the other I bought myself because I wanted to add it to my collection.

The first book is by Lauren Child. It's retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears but done with photographs and 3D sets. Similar to the photos I like to do, I thought having this book would tie in well with my own work as well as Lauren being one of my inspirations. The book is also interesting because at the back it has a "behind the scenes" section in which you can see how the sets and shoot was done. It is also a collaborative book with a photographer and set designer.

...
The second book was bought as a gift from Rome, although it can be bought anywhere, it is the story of Alice in Wonderland. This book is an advanced pop up book, the time and effort put into this book is amazing. Every element of the book is different to the last and it features a wide range of mechanics in paper craft. It is created by Robert Sabuda with the original text from Lewis Carroll.

Artists I like #8

Browsing DeviantArt and I saw this book that had been crafted into a sort of treasure chest. It just looks really pretty and almost like a collectable. It is very delicate and by the appearance has a lot of tiny hand made hard back books or scrolls. It relates to my current project because it could be an artist book. It would also be quite a unique take as its more of an object based piece.
Images have since been deleted from Deviantart

Artists I like #7

Upon doing some research into some artist for my Social Awareness project, which I'm looking at video games, I found this artist who draws video games but as children books. He manages to give the game a new title that makes it seem more suitable for children. He also creates covers for TV series and movies. I really like these illustrations!
His website, tons more to see: Jo3bot

Artists I like #6

Saw this link posted on Facebook, made me smile. The images are created by an Illustrator Rafael Mantesso. I like the humour to these images as well as the creativity. They all have a range of skill, some being simple and cartoon, others being more realistic and well drawn.

Advertising I like #3

Watching TV I saw the new M&S Food advert. I loved it straight away. It's an advert I actually enjoy watching. You can always tell when it's an M&S advert because of the quality and effort put into the video. It's strange to compare M&S against Tesco or Morrison, you know the different shops just from a few seconds of advert by how they represent food and the quality of the camera.

I love how they incorporated slow motion and fast forwarding at the same time. I'm not quite sure how they produced the shots to look both slow and fast at the same time but it's pretty impressive. The food always looks so good in M&S adverts whether you like it or not.  The music is a good choice too because it matches the quality of food as well as makes the sequence of the video flow quite nicely. The colours are bright and bold and it really makes the whole thing appealing.

Artists I like #5

On my trip to Disney World I found an Illustration I instantly loved.

The artist is Jerrod Maruyama. All his work is cute and mostly Disney related. He works as a freelance Illustrator and graduated San Jose State university with a degree in Illustration. I'd love to one day produce work that would be sold by Disney.

DeviantArt again, I had been shown these images previously didn't take note. Murph3 takes screen caps from Disney movies and paints over the top of them. Although the picture I actually saw was done by Cryptid-Creations. He did an inspired one but remembered I'd seen previous ones by Murph3 before.

Cryptid's version.

Artists I like

Browsing DeviantArt I came across Jeffach. I remember seeing his work a while ago but recently stumbled upon a new piece he uploaded. Jeffach makes AMAZING photo manipulations, one could only dream of being as talented as this. This is the sort of work I would love to create, I guess it's all about practice!

http://jeffach.deviantart.com/

All of his work isn't one single photograph, they're made up of lots of different photos. Even the body and the head, the legs and face!? A true inspiration for me.

Advetising I like #2

I saw the new Kellogg's advert, made out of paper cutting. I assume it's a stop frame animation but you never know these days.

Apparently Kodaline are "outraged" because they the song used in Kellogg's advert is "ripped off" from their band.

Fonts I like

So going on Dafont.com is pretty addictive for me. Once I go on, I can't stop downloading new fonts and eventually when I come to creating something, I forget what I downloaded. So I thought as well as sharing my fav fonts, I could also make a reminder!

Narrative Illustration Final Piece

I really enjoyed creating the final narrative for this project. I took inspiration from Lauren Child's "Princess and the Pea", she uses doll furniture and hand drawn people mixed with fabrics to create little sets to go along with her narratives. I decided to create my own for my narrative of Catherine of Braganza. In the 17th century she ruled as Queen, wife of Charles II. She made tea popular within the English court. My narrative is of Catherine producing the perfect cup of tea.

I bought doll house furniture after researching into the eras furniture and fabrics. I mixed photographs of furniture from the V&A I took, along with the doll furniture arranged with the character illustrations.

Advertsing I like

So I was just scrolling through some magazines looking for some collage material when I saw these two advertisements. They reflect the type of career I want to go into, Creative Advertising. Thought I'd keep them on here just for keepsakes.
